Montgomery — Family Sunshine Center (FSC) is requesting donations for Christmas in July and the annual Back to School drives to support families and students in the FSC residential and counseling programs.

The organization serves residents of Chilton, Autauga, Butler, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lowndes and Montgomery counties.

For the Christmas in July drive, FSC is seeking donations of essential household items for clients transitioning through and out of the residential program. Many of FSC clients are surviving on extremely tight budgets with little available for the essentials, especially with the rising costs and inflation. These are the necessary items (like sheets and towels, baby supplies and children’s needs) that so many make take for granted but can really strain a budget of those trying to get back on their feet. A donation list is available on the FSC website at www.familysunshine.org/christmas-in-july or donations can be purchased and shipped through the FSC Amazon wish list www.tinyurl.com/55ywf696. The Christmas in July drive runs through July 31.

Back to school can also be a financial burden for FSC clients. Many struggle to find the additional funds needed for uniforms, books or school supplies. FSC’s Back to School Supply and Adopt-A-Student uniform drive are often the only ways these families have the necessary items to start off the school year.

The Back-to-School supply drive seeks to fill backpacks with essential and appropriate school supplies. The Adopt-a-Student uniform drive pairs donors with students to provide the necessary uniforms. More information on both drives can be found on the FSC website at www.familysunshine.org/fsc-kicks-off-back-to-school-drives/. The Back-to-School drives run from July 15 – Aug. 15.

“Our client families are already struggling with the aftermath of trauma and violence”, says Tay Knight, FSC Executive Director. “Learning starts at home and our client families deserve to have the same opportunities for academic success as their peers.”
