Eian Headley of Chilton County High School is The Clanton Advertiser’s Chilton County baseball player of the year for the 2022 season.

Headley, who has been in the Tigers leadoff spot for the past three seasons, batted .379 with a team high 10 doubles and three triples. He tied the CCHS team high for home runs with three and drove in 19 runs during the season.

“He is a really special player and competitor,” CCHS coach Ryan Ellison said. “He is the life of the clubhouse, and having him in our program the last four to five years has been huge for our success.”

Headley has been tasked with holding down the Tigers shortstop position the last two seasons as well as stepping on the mound when needed to pitch. Headley was an All-County performer last season for the Tigers and repeats with his honor in 2022.

Honorable Mention: Tre Fulmer, Chilton County High School, Jr.

The player with the best statistical year in the county this year was CCHS junior third baseman Tre Fulmer. Fulmer batted a whopping .481 for the year while driving in a team-high 31 runs. He added seven doubles, two triples and tied Headley for the team lead in home runs with three.

“(Tre) was vital to our success this year,” Ellison said. “Eian had success getting on base at the leadoff spot, and then Tre is there later in the lineup. When you hit .481 with people on base, good things happen.”

Fulmer grew into his own this season and shined brightest on March 17 by launching a three-run, walk off home run to lift the Tigers over Pelham High School in a game, at the time, the Tigers had to win.

“It is really hard to look at those numbers and not be completely blown away by them,” Ellison said. “It is not only .481, but .481 in a very competitive area.”

Honorable Mention: Luke Davis, Thorsby High School, Sr.

Thorsby landed four players on the All-County team after winning the Class 2A Area 6 title, led by senior Luke Davis. Davis batting at a .403 clip with an OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of 1.211 and clubbed a team high three home runs. He added 26 RBIs and scored 23 runs for the Rebels during the season. Davis was also the best pitcher for Thorsby throughout the season. He posted five wins and struck out 52 batters in 46 and two-thirds innings pitched.

“(Luke) was big for us this year,” Thorsby coach Drew Wood said. “All of these players were critical to our season in 2022. Whether it was on the mound, at the plate or defensively, these guys were major contributors to our success.”
