Clanton officials have secured a $20,000 grant for the Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program.

The Community Action Partnership of Middle Alabama awarded the funds after the city applied for a grant.

Clanton Chief of Staff Bob Woods said the funds will go to “the purchase of a much-needed freezer to keep meals cold.”

“Our location (on Enterprise Road) … has close to 250 recipients of meals, qualified eligible recipients of Meals on Wheels,” Woods said.

He said this is more than any other program in the state.

Candace Howell, Community Action Partnership of Middle Alabama executive assistant, said there are several organizations the group partners with to support gardening and nutrition.

This include several Senior Centers.

Mayor Jeff Mims and Woods worked on getting the application out and are looking for other ways to partner with the organization.

“We look forward to a long-term relationship,” Woods said.

The city is looking at Community Action Partnership of Middle Alabama possibilities for the Senior Connection in Park Plaza and the S.T.E.P. program.
