Clanton has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 27th year. The distinction is awarded to communities that make an effort to preserve and increase trees in the community.
Communities must meet four requirements to receive this designation, including “maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry (and) celebrating Arbor Day,” according to the Tree City USA website.
