CCHS defeats Prattville in tennis

The Chilton County High School boys and girls tennis teams defeated Prattville High School at Newton Park on Feb. 1

The girls went undefeated in doubles and only lost one match in singles, assistant coach David McCary said.

Clanton girls singles included Lydia Harton, who won 8-1; Charolette Blencowe, who  won 8-0; Sarah Beth Argent, who won 8-2; Lily Roselle, who won 8-0; Helen Nguyen, who won 8-2 as well as Landon Stephenson, an 8th grader, played well but lost 5-8

Girls doubles included Harton and Blencowe, who won 8-3; Argent and Lydia Newton, who won 8-5 as well as Roselle and Nguyen won 8-3.

During the boys singles competitions, Marshall Tilly won 8-5 and Ken Tilly won 8-2.

McCary said Kolby Hughes fought hard and came from behind to win 8-6

Konnor Traywick lost 3-8, and Colin Cleckler another middle school player lost 8-1

Samual Sims got ahead early and fought off a comeback attempt to win 8-6

Boys doubles competitions included Traywick and Hughes, who won 8-2; Ken Tilly and Marshall Tilly, who won 8-2 as well as Cleckler and Sims, who lost 8-2.

Head coach for the teams is Leann Gregory.

The team travels next week to Benjamin Russell and Jemison. They will return home Feb. 15 for a match with Chelsea at the Clanton City Park. Admission is free, and all are welcome to come out and support our team.
