Vernon H. Deavers, age 83 of Billingsley, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022 at his daughter’s residence in Centre, Alabama.

He is survived by his three daughters, Jan Mize (David) of Tuscaloosa; Joanna Causey (Greg Travis) of Port St. Joe, Florida; and Pam Gossett (Mark) of Centre; grandchildren, Brandon Bonner, Annabel Pifer (Charlie), Cade Gossett and Camryn Gossett; great-grandson, Leon Pifer; brothers Clyde Deavers, Larry Deavers and Jerry Deavers (Kathy).

He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Myra “Nancy” Deavers; his parents, Clyde and Clara Deavers; and sister, Eleanor Deavers.

Vernon was born in Clanton on March 12, 1938. He is a 1956 graduate of Billingsley High School and a 1992 graduate of Troy State University. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1956-1960. He retired in 2000 from a career as an inspector supervisor at various nuclear and hydroelectric plants around the U.S. He was a hard-worker and an excellent handyman.

Deavers chose to be a donor to the UAB Anatomical Donor Program to contribute to medical research. A memorial service will be held in Clanton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association.
