The Clanton Police Department is investigating recent thefts from Sept. 16.
Michael Chad Ellison, 47, of Thorsby was arrested on Sept. 16 on a charge of Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree. He was released after making the $5,000 bond on Sept. 17.
Lt. Cameron Bates said in a press release that the department had responded to a burglary in process in the 900 block of Pinedale Road. At the scene, Ellison “was in possession of a stolen firearm from Pelham Police jurisdiction,” according to Bates.
A separate investigation continues into two vehicle thefts. Both Ford F250’s were reportedly missing from businesses in the 1700 and 1800 block of Seventh Street S. One of the vehicles was spotted by Chilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies on County Road 445.
Detectives and investigators responded to the scene.
“While processing the scene a vehicle came by the scene at a high rate of speed and a vehicle pursuit ensued while this vehicle eluded law enforcement and officers and deputies were looking for the vehicle, deputies noticed the second stolen vehicle on County Road 447 near the intersection of County Road 59,” Bates said. “Detectives were able to recover evidence from both scenes and the thefts are still under investigation.”
