On June 8, the Alabama FFA Alumni Association recognized Mickey Bates of Clanton Tractor (Kubota) with the 2021 Alumni Member of the Year Award.

He was honored for his tireless contributions to agriscience education at the annual awards dinner held at the Farmhouse Restaurant in Thorsby.  Recipients of this award go over and beyond to provide assistance to the agriscience department and FFA chapters in the areas of growing leaders, building communities, and strengthening agriculture. Bates, the Chilton County High 2021 FFA Alumni Outstanding Member, is always ready to lend a helping hand to students, whether that be in the form of equipment, such as tractors, to be used in the local safe tractor driving contest or financial assistance, which is used to help students attend various leadership training (National FFA Convention, State FFA Convention).

There are many activities in agriscience/FFA that would not be possible without the support of this community.  Marlon Harton, agriscience teacher at Chilton County High School, stated that Bates has helped him improve the agriscience program for over 20 years. He is genuinely dedicated and is a true all- in stakeholder at CCHS. He engages the students throughout the county by giving them the opportunity to work at his tractor dealership, where they further their education in maintenance, customer service, and connects them to the industry of agriculture. We appreciate Bates telling our story, which is FFA, but is also about agriculture, food, natural resources and agricultural education.

While attending CCHS, Bates was a student in agricultural education classes concentrating in building construction and was also a member of the FFA Chapter at Chilton County High School.  He stated that he is very appreciative of the Alumni Member of the Year Award and that he enjoys supporting agriscience education and FFA.
