Chilton County Schools are opening two hours late following a night of severe weather.
Thorsby and Maplesville high schools are without power, and students will be on an e-learning day today.
“Thorsby and Maplesville will both have an e-learning day today with faculty and staff not being on campus due to lack of full power. We are hopeful that power will be restored at those schools today. We will update for tomorrow sometime today,” Chilton County Schools Superintendent Jason Griffin said.
Breakfast will be served at the schools that are in person today.
On May 4, the Weather Service in Birmingham reported a confirmed tornado near the Perry and Chilton County border. The storm was headed toward Maplesville and caused some trees to fall into the roadway.
Power went out in Mapleville near 7 p.m. and was not restored by 7 a.m.
