The Chilton County Commission approved a resolution to enter into contract negotiations with NextSite, LLC during a voting session on March 23.

The commission approved the resolution by a vote of 6 to 1. Commission Chair Joseph Parnell and Commissioners Jimmie Hardee, Matthew Mims, Darrell Bone, Joe Headley and Randell Kelley all voted in favor of the resolution while Commissioner Allen Williams was the only one to vote against it.

NextSite is a commercial development advisory firm, used to help tenant representatives and developers find opportunities. Their purpose would be to help the county attract businesses to the area.

NextSite already has a contract with the City of Clanton, but not with Chilton County.

The resolution was brought to the commission by Commissioner Mims.

Another resolution will be brought to the commission if the negotiations lead to a contract between the County Commission and NextSite, according to Mims.

Also discussed at the meeting were current issues with signage along truck routes in the county as well as the possibility of the County Commission challenging the 7-vote system in District Court. That topic was dropped from the agenda before the voting session, however.
