Christmas is a special time of year filled with a special eager anticipation for Darlene Brock, Chilton/Clanton Public Library director.

Part of the holiday fun includes revisiting favorite Christmas stories that she first read as a child.

Her favorite Christmas story is the birth of Jesus in the Bible, and her favorite Christmas books

are “The 12 Days of Christmas” by Caroline Pedler and “The Night before Christmas” by Clement Moore.

“The Night before Christmas” by Clement Moore is available at the Clanton library branch.

“I like ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ because it has music with it also,” Brock said. “I have always liked ‘The Night before Christmas.’”

Brock said she reads ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ with her grandchildren, and they start to sing the words.

She was first introduced to “The Night before Christmas” as a young child and loved it. Later, she memorized it.

“Christmas is just special,” Brock said. “It’s family. It’s friends. It’s just a fun time.”

She said it seems like there is more love at Christmastime “because people are looking at things in a different way.” She said this year, Christmas is especially meaningful in the midst of the pandemic.

Christmas also means baking cookies with her grandchildren for Brock. Brock said one of her granddaughter’s enjoys taking some of the cookies to the teachers she had in preschool.
