The Billingsley Bears dropped their first game of the 2020 season following a 24-16 defeat on the road against Loachapoka on Sept. 4.
It was a close game throughout with the two teams tied 8-all at halftime.
However, the Bears (2-1, 0-1) defense surrendered a big play for a touchdown and fell behind at the end of the third quarter.
Loachapoka (2-1, 1-0) extended its lead after recovering a mishandled punt snap and punching it into the end zone just a few plays later.
The special teams mistake proved crucial because it allowed Loachapoka to start its drive at the Billingsley 10-yard line.
The Bears continued to fight back and put together a scoring drive of their own with 5:18 remaining in the contest.
However, Billingsley kicked off following the score and was never able to gain possession back. The clock eventually ran out on the comeback bid.
Starting quarterback Levi Arington threw for a pair of touchdowns, one of which was caught by Z’londre Tyus.
Tyus finished with 103 receiving yards in the game.
