Even though Chilton County Schools has ended face-to-face classes for the school year, the school system is working to have teachers and counselors available to its students during this difficult time.

“One of the goals of our educational plan during the crisis is to provide support for our student’s social and emotional needs,” Superintendent Jason Griffin said. “We will be providing teacher support through communication with students on a regular basis through phone calls, email, virtual classrooms or any other means of communication that is available. So, the teacher will be the first point of contact, but if a need arises, our school counselors are available to assist with social/emotional needs and academic support as well. In addition, if the teacher or counselor feels the student may need further assistance, we will be using outside resources as well including but not limited to local agencies.”

Additionally, some schools have posted encouragement and tips on dealing with anxiety related to the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine.

These have included videos of faculty saying how much they miss students to open letters from principals.

Many faculty members have posted information about getting in touch with them and reminders about forms needed before the start of the 2020-2021 school year in August.

“Our goal is to be there for our students and their families during this crisis,” Griffin said. “We all have to work together to make this work.”

School work for the rest of the semester is being made available to students via mailed packets on online platforms.

However, teachers will still be available to students 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. as they would during a traditional school day.
