March Gourd Madness canceled

March Gourd Madness has been canceled due to concerns related to coronavirus outbreaks in other areas.
“It is best for the vendors and suppliers from Texas, Florida and Kentucky not to come and not knowing if the people would show up for the event with all the closures due to the panic of this new virus,” festival director and Alabama Gourd Society President Mack Gothard said. “Follow us again for the 2021 March Gourd Madness.”
Those who had prepaid for classes will be receiving a refund, Gothard said.
The two-day event had been scheduled to take place at the Chilton County campus of Jefferson State Community College.
While some colleges in the state have announced switching to totally online classes for a while, classes for Jefferson State were still being held in person as of March 13.
