The Chilton County Arts Council will hold its open house and annual meeting on Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. in the Arts Council building at 703 Second Ave. in downtown Clanton.

Charlotte Rowland of Chilton County Arts Council said the meeting is open to those who are interested in becoming members as well as current members.

“We would really like for people to get interested in the Arts Council,” Rowland said. “We, of course, want to promote the arts in Chilton County.”

Membership is open to anyone interested in the visual arts. There is an annual membership fee.

Officers for the year will be elected at the Jan. 12 meeting. The council is welcoming three new board members this year — Melinda Smith, Russell Lawlis and Deanna Lawlis.

“It is an informal meeting about finances and events upcoming,” Rowland said.

A review of the previous year’s activities will also be presented.

March Gourd Madness and the Chilton County Arts Festival are the largest events for the council each year.

“We are going to start some new classes,” Rowland said. “We have a children’s art class that is being taught on Monday night, and we are starting guitar lessons sometime this year. We are still in the planning stages for other events.”

She said the council is also looking for those who may be interested in teaching an art class.
