The Thorsby Town Council approved a resolution to apply for the Rebuild Alabama Act, which could help the town in future paving projects.

According to the Alabama Department of Revenue’s website, on March 12 Gov. Kay Ivey signed the act into law.

The act began levying an additional excise tax on gasoline and undyed diesel on Sept. 1.

With the act, the taxes increased from 6 cents to 24 cents per gallon of gasoline pumped and jumped to 25 cents per gallon for undyed diesel.

Preparations for the Thorsby Christmas Parade continue. The parade is scheduled for Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. Participants are asked to start lining up at 8:30 a.m.

The Council also failed to approve an ad for the town in The Clanton Advertiser’s 2020 Progress Magazine. The expenditure was not included in the budget and the resolution died for a lack of motion.

The Council approved the minutes from its Nov. 4 meeting, the minutes from planning commission meeting on Oct. 1 and the financial statement for October.

It was approved to pay the town’s bills and transfer the funds.
