The Thorsby Town Council approved a resolution to have Mayor Robert Hight serve on the Industrial Development Authority.

The Chilton County Commission recently approved the transition from an IDB to an IDA.

Thorsby will have one of 11 seats on the authority, which will have representation from the various municipalities in Chilton County.

The annual Thorsby Swedish Festival is scheduled for Oct. 12 with a parade kicking things off at 9 a.m. Participants are asked to begin lining up around 7:30 a.m. in the lot of the old garment factory.

The parade route will be the same as previous years and will include traveling down U.S. 31 through downtown Thorsby.

Vendors will be setup at Richard Wood Park until 2 p.m. and the Thorsby Fire Department is planning to show Hocus Pocus on the large projection screen in the park that night.

Collins Chapel Baptist Church pastor William Kee spoke to the Council about hosting a “Trunk or Treat” event on Oct. 30 at Richard Wood Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Council approved the event.

The event will be a partnership between Collins Chapel, Thorsby First Baptist and Liberty Hill Baptist Church. In the past previous each church had held separate events, but this will be the first time they are joining together.

The Council approved the minutes from the Sept. 16 meeting and the minutes from the planning commission meeting on Aug. 6.
