The annual Saturday Night Cruise-in is returning to downtown Maplesville on Aug. 24 from 2-6 p.m.

Sponsored by Valle Grande Mexican Grill of Maplesville, the event is in its third year.

Restaurant owner Sergio Sanchez said anyone wanting to feature their car, truck or motorcycle at the event is welcome to do so.

“We can take as many as want to come participate,” Sanchez said. “The more, the better.”

The main street through downtown will be closed for the event, so attendees can enjoy the lines of vehicles.

Participation is free. Those who register a car in the event will receive a coupon for 50 percent off an entree at Valle Grande Mexican Grill of Maplesville.

Sanchez said he enjoys hosting the cruise-in as a “more relaxed” atmosphere than a car show, which traditionally has a registration fee.

“There are a lot of people passionate about cars,” Sanchez said.

One of his goals with the event is to give these enthusiasts a place to showcase their vehicle and enjoy other people’s vehicles.

Sanchez said he wants children to be able to see vehicles they have never seen before, and for adults to be able to reminisce while looking at the classic cars.

“(There is a) different mix of emotions when we have these events,” Sanchez said.

Last year, one visitor was emotional over seeing a car that was a model his family had owned when he was younger. He had not seen one similar in 30 years. Sanchez said for him moments like that are what the event is all about.

Sanchez said no matter the vehicle there is always going to be at least one person excited to see it.

He said he enjoys seeing all the people who come out for the event and their reactions to the different vehicles.

Many of his car enthusiast friends from Montgomery, Prattville and Wetumpka will bring cars to the event.

“They love the old time feel here in Maplesville,” Sanchez said.
