The YMCA of Chilton County has received a Walmart Foundation Community Grant from the Chilton County Walmart.

YMCA director Lori Patterson said the funds will go toward planned renovation for the soccer field.

“The soccer program has grown exponentially every year,” Patterson said. “We are in great need of additional practice space and better game day facilities.”

The Walmart Foundation grant is one of several that the organization has applied for toward upgrades to existing space and developing other areas for play.

“Every year the store is granted a budget and the store associates and store manager get to distribute the funds,” Brian Roberts, store manager at the Clanton Walmart, said. “We chose to support the YMCA soccer program to not only help grow an up and coming sport within the county and give the children of Chilton County something more to do constructively, but we also wanted to support the YMCA for all it stands and does for the community.”

Roberts said most of the programs the store has chosen to support this year serve Chilton County, including Kelsey’s Place, Chilton County High School, Chilton travel baseball, My Sister’s Place and Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center.
