The Chilton County United Way partnered with Pies By Mike throughout the month of March as part of a fundraising effort.

A total of 223 pies were sold during the fundraiser.

“The numbers were great,” CCUW campaign coordinator Carol Fortuna said. “It’s very touching to know that people care.”

Proceeds from the pie sales were given to the CCUW to help the nonprofit organizations that they contribute to each year.

It was the second year for the event, and is an initiative that Fortuna sees continuing in the future.

“We want to let people know that it was a success,” Fortuna said.

CCUW was set up outside of Walmart in Clanton on six afternoons throughout the month selling pies.

According to Fortuna, she was amazed at how many people left a donation even if they were not buying a pie.

“People just gave from their heart,” Fortuna said.

It helps any time the CCUW can partner with local businesses to help raise money and get the word out about those in need in the county.

“It’s great to team up with them,” Fortuna said. “We couldn’t have done it without them.”
