A unique opportunity to raise funds for the West End Baptist Church Relay For Life team is coming to Clanton at Baugh Ford on April 6 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m.
Drvie 4 UR Community requires no money, only time on participants’ part. For each test drive (one per household) taken during the event, Ford will donate $20 to the American Cancer Society through the church’s childhood cancer team — Going #GoldTogether for God’s Children.
Sunny Mays of the West End Baptist Church Relay For Life team said participants will need to fill out paperwork before the test drive and a survey afterward for the drive to count for the fundraiser. Drivers must be at least 18 years of age.
“Either one of our team members or a member of Baugh Ford will be riding with them,” Mays said.
The team could raise up to $6,000 with this event.
Hot dogs, water and snacks will be provided at the event, courtesy of Baugh Ford and the West End Relay For Life childhood cancer team.
Mays said a team member had heard about the opportunity from her husband, who is a Baugh employee. The American Cancer Society was on the list of organization that could raise funds through the event.
This is the first year for the church to add the team focused on fighting childhood cancer.
“ACS has asked several communities to focus on childhood cancer and since through our church we’ve had four different children to battle — and win over — childhood cancer, we asked could we be that childhood cancer team,” Mays said. “So, we created a new team.”
She said it was a way for the church “to promote ending childhood cancer.”
The American Cancer Society’s #GoldTogether campaign is focused on increasing the number of teams committed to raising funds for the fight against pediatric cancer.
“We all just got real excited … because we have four survivors and I know there are more in the county that are survivors and some that are fighting,” Mays said. “We have several children in the county that we know of that are fighting in cancer.”
Baugh Ford is located at 1670 7th St. N in Clanton.
