The Chilton County Commission will hold three public meetings over the next several weeks pertaining to the proposed county sales tax increase.

According to Commission Chairman Joseph Parnell, the idea for the public hearings came from Rep. Jimmy Martin.

The hearings will allow an opportunity for the Commission to provide further insight and explain the intricacies of the proposed tax.

“We made a commitment to defend our decision,” Parnell said.

The public meetings are scheduled for March 19 at Jemison City Hall, April 2 in the Commission chamber at the courthouse and April 4 at Maplesville Town Hall.

All meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

Residents will be allowed a three-minute window to ask their questions or state their concerns.

Having someone to serve as a moderator during the meetings has been discussed. Former Judge Rhonda Hardesty was mentioned as a possibility during the Commission meeting on March 12.

She moderated a local political forum prior to the recent election.
