The YMCA of Chilton County is taking advantage of Facebook’s Giving Tuesday donation match initiative to raise funds for a drowning prevention and water safety program.
YMCA director Lori Patterson said Facebook will match all donations made through the organization’s Facebook page on Nov. 27.
“We are accepting donations in person but we are suggesting people donate on our Facebook page as (it) will match 100 percent of the donation,” Patterson said.
Drowning prevention and water safety training is a part of all swim lessons at the YMCA.
Funds raised through Giving Tuesday would allow the YMCA to offer a free water safety class for second-grade students as well as provide transportation to and from the classes.
“This is a very important initiative to us,” Patterson said. “We are a lake community with an abundance of backyard pools and ponds. The curriculum is very successful in teaching children to save themselves in a water related- life threatening situation. We will also teach basic swim strokes.”
The YMCA Hope’s to raise $5,000 for the program on Giving Tuesday.
