The annual tree lighting ceremony for Clanton will be held on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. at Corner Park in downtown.

“Santa Claus will come in about 5 p.m. on the firetruck,” city councilwoman Mary Mell Smith said.

Santa will be walking around for photo opportunities. Then, he will light the tree.

This year’s entertainment will include several twirl and dance teams, such as Just Twirl It and Bama Babes, as well as the Children’s Praise Choir from First Baptist Church. Several of the local queens will be featured, and 2018 Junior Miss Chilton County Cameron McGhar will sing.

Smith said “just seeing the children’s faces … as the tree is lit” is always a highlight for her.

“And to see the look on the parents’ faces as their children perform,” Smith said. “They are just beaming. I enjoy the fact that the city can offer something like this.”

Sally Pitts is returning this year as the event’s emcee.

Some bleacher seating will be available, but attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs.

Corner Park is located at the intersection of Second Avenue North and Sixth Street North.
