The Maplesville Town Council has selected Mitchell Contracting to complete repaving projects for Mitchell Hill Road, Taylor Road, Sawmill Road, Magnolia Avenue, Martin Street and Crumpton Avenue.

Council members had unanimously agreed to go with whichever of the bids the engineer recommended during a meeting on Nov. 12.

Town Clerk Dawn Smitherman said the project will also include correcting some drainage issues on these roads.

A start date for the project has not been determined.

The Council also unanimously approved a request from the police department for $3,334.23 for front steering and suspension repairs to one of the vehicles.

The Council also:

  • Approved purchasing a speaker system from Roy Mart for Main Street to be used during events.
  • Opened bids for turnout gear for the Maplesville Fire Department. Smitherman said a bid was not approved so that it could be confirmed that each bid had all of the required paperwork.
  • Hired Treasure Bice as an office assistant.
  • Heard updates on changes to retirement information paperwork the clerk will be required to fill out starting in January.
  • Approved $500 for the fire department for blankets to give victims when responding to incidents in cold weather.
