Enoch “Henry” Johnson, II of Newnan, GA, was born in Verbena, AL, on November 18, 1933, and peacefully left this earth to walk with the Lord on November 3, 2018.

His beloved parents, Thomas Kermit Johnson and Anna Pauline Patterson Johnson, predeceased him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marie Thornton Johnson, his children; Cathy Marie Johnson Low (Gregory Low) of Washougal, WA, and Enoch “Henry” Johnson, III (Sonja Watson Johnson) of Suffolk, VA, and his grandchildren; Morgan Low, Rachael Low, Mason Low, Zachary Johnson, Jacob Johnson, and step-grandchild, Marissa Rexroad.

Henry graduated from Verbena High School in 1951 and promptly joined the U.S. Navy. Meanwhile his high school sweetheart, Marie, went on vacation to Phoenix, AZ, and loved it so much, she stayed and worked at Phoenix Title and Trust. Henry proudly served his country until 1954 aboard the submarine USS Becuna (SS-319). Upon his return, Henry attended Auburn University where he was affiliated with the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and began to study dentistry. A new interest took Henry to Eastern Airlines where he worked as a ticket agent prior to working for the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller. During his time there, he answered a new calling and decided he was going to fly instead of sitting in a tower directing flights.  It was the spring of 1956 when Marie and Henry reconnected due to a very sweet note he left at her home when he heard she had come back home for a visit. On his birthday in 1956 he married his dear friend at Chestnut Creek Baptist Church in Verbena, AL, ensuring he’d never forgot their anniversary. After dedicating many years of his life flying travelers all over the world, Captain E. Henry Johnson, II retired in 1989.  In addition to his devotion to family, career, and membership of Central Baptist Church, he served the Freemasons for 62 years.  After becoming a Master Mason in AL, he became a Member of Coweta Lodge no. 60 of Newnan, GA. There he became Worshipful Master of the Lodge; eventually Master of the 4th district, then 4th District Deputy to the Grand Master of GA. Worshipful Brother Henry Johnson was a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, and a Shriner. His accomplishments earned him a 32nd degree in Free Masonry. He will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.

The family will receive visitors from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the Memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 with Dr. John Riley of Macedonia Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Central Time/3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, November 17, 2018.  Henry’s nephew, Randy Cagle, will present the interment service at Verbena Cemetery, CR 500, Verbena, Chilton County, AL.

The family of Mr. Johnson wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Andrew T. McDonald and the entire staff of Newnan Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care and support they provided.
