The Maplesville Town Hall is collecting donations for its annual Toys for Kids giveaway.
“There are just so many people in the surrounding area that are in need,” coordinator Cindy Brown said.
She said the program works to make sure that the children in Maplesville and nearby areas will receive something this Christmas.
New or gently used toys can be donated at town hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through Nov. 28.
Brown said monetary donations will also be accepted. The money will be used to buy toys, clothing and other needed items for the children in the program.
Volunteers are needed to help shop for these items on Nov. 30.
Parents will pick up the toys from town hall on Dec. 21, so they can give them to their children on Christmas Day. Last year, 84 children and 35 families were served through the program.
Applications to be a recipient can be picked up at town hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through Nov. 28. Filled out applications can be returned to the town hall on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Nov. 28.
This year, Guardian Credit Union is partnering with the town to collect nonperishable food items for those in need. Theresa Perry of the Maplesville Guardian location said the food will be given to town hall for distribution.
Donations can be brought into the branch or to the drive through lane one, if it will fit through the window.
Perry said for each item that is donated the person’s names would be placed in a drawing for a Visa gift card and Guardian-themed prizes. The drawing will be on Nov. 30. However, donations will still be accepted after this date.
