The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce recognized Chilton Propane Gas Company as its business of the month for September during a ceremony held at the establishment on Aug. 30.

According to President Mike Elder, his father-in-law started Chilton Propane in February 1978. Elder has been with the company since July 1989.

Chilton Propane currently has 10 employees.

“My father-in-law said he wanted to have a product that the people needed,” Elder said. “We provide home heating, water heating, cooking and other things to rural customers in Chilton County, part of Autauga, the very edge of Shelby, Perry and Bibb counties.”

Elder said propane has many uses, is reliable and safe in the right hands.

“It’s a very good product as long as it’s handled correctly,” he said. “We go to various schools and training to make sure we know what we are doing. Propane is very reliable, very warm and a good source of energy.”

According to the company’s website, “Chilton Propane Gas Company offers numerous propane-based products to our customers. We carry barbecue grills, fryers and stoves/ovens. We also stock some great propane fireplaces. Come on in and take a look at the range of products we have in stock. We’re happy to have you browse through our inventory any time. If you have something specific in mind, feel free to get in touch to see if we carry it.”

Elder said it felt “very good” to be named as the Chamber’s business of the month for September.

“It was highly unexpected, but we are very thankful that someone thought something of us. We need to thank God and everybody for their support,” he said.

Other things like grills and generators can be powered with propane. Tanks for grills or other purposes can either be purchased or refilled at the business.

Chilton Propane is open year round Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the winter months from November through February, the business is also open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
