Jeremy Davis has been named the new pastor of Sunshine Assembly of God in Clanton.
He and his wife Carla had been the music ministers at the church from January 1996 to January 2011.
“My wife is a very key part of our ministry,” Davis said. “She does the music. We’ve done music ever since we have been married.”
Davis’ father, Arthur, had been the senior pastor at Sunshine from 1992 to 2011.
While Jeremy Davis admits to being a little nervous about pastoring where his father had been senior pastor for 19 years, he said he is excited about the opportunity.
Jeremy Davis’ first sermon as senior pastor on Aug. 19 focused on this being a new day for the church.
“We want to see the church grow in number,” Davis said. “We want to reach every age of the community.”
Most recently, the Davis couple served as ministers of music at Thompson Assembly in Jemison.
Davis said he began the pastoral credentialing process while at Thompson.
When Davis heard that Sunshine was in need of a pastor, he said he felt God telling him that he would be the next pastor of the church.
“We never contacted the church,” Davis said. “We never applied. I said, ‘I want it to be a God thing.'”
Davis had come back to Sunshine for a special music service, and was approached by the church about becoming the senior pastor.
“This is a loving church, and they have just welcomed us back with loving arms that we left under,” Davis said.
Many of the same people still attend from when the Davis family was there before.
Davis also owns a construction company.
Jeremy and Carla have two children, Jacob and Krista.
