As the school and football seasons start, another potentially less acknowledged season also begins fundraising season.

Whether it is sports teams, FFA or band programs, numerous groups of students and booster clubs in Chilton County will be looking to raise funds for trips, equipment and other resources.

Auctions will be held. Dinners are being planned. No doubt many of you have already been approached by a student or two selling candy, candles, pizza, tickets to an event or simply asking for a donation.

In this season, it may seem that everyone is asking or your hard-earned money at the same time. Many may feel like they do not have much to give. While it is true that no one person could ever contribute to every project or noble endeavor they are asked to fund, it is important to remember that even a small donation can make an impact. A $5 donation may just seem like a drop in the bucket, but if everyone that is asked gives even this small amount each school group will be much closer to that ne equipment or competition trip.

Even as monetary help is being requested, many schools may also have a need for donations of time. Local principals or PTOs would be a good place to start for suggestions.

Extracurricular activities are not the only school-related groups in need of funds. Teachers are also working to get funds to enhance their classrooms. Although the school system receives funds for each school, there is often not enough money for extras that teachers would like to halve to make learning fun or exciting for students.

Many local teachers have turned to donorschoose.org as a way of, hopefully, funding these extras. At last count, there were four local teachers with requests on the site. Each request goes through a vetting process before it is open to the public to donate. Each project is outlined in great detail, even including what each item would cost.

So, no matter what you have to offer, there are many ways to become involved in this year’s school fundraising season.
