Rising Chilton County High School senior Adi Argent shared the court with some of the elite players in the state during the AHSAA North vs. South Girls Basketball Game on July 18.

The game was one of several events featured during the AHSAA’s All-Star Sports Week July 16-21. It was played at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery.

“I was kind of intimidated going in, but I knew I just had to give it my all,” Argent said.

According to Argent, one of the more difficult tasks was learning to play with an entirely new group of teammates in a short amount of time as a member of the south squad.

The group was given three practices in the days leading up to the game to figure things out.

“It’s about being able to adjust to a whole new team, and learning how they work and what passes they can handle,” Argent said. “The good thing is that a lot of these girls are super athletic and have a lot of experience.”

The memories that Argent will cherish most are the little things, such as the bus rides to and from practice.

“Just getting to talk with the girls and hear about their lives was really good,” Argent said. “It’s always fun to communicate and get to know each other.”

She scored two points and grabbed a rebound in the contest.

“I knew when my name was called I had to go out there and give 110 percent,” Argent said. “It ended up paying off, because I got to score a basket. That is a great memory.”

When the rosters were announced on the court prior to tip-off, Argent received a loud ovation from a large contingent of supporters that made the trip from Chilton County.

“I am so thankful for the community and all of my close friends and family that came out,” Argent said. “They could have done anything else tonight, but they chose to drive and watch me. That means a lot.”

After a stellar junior season, Argent looks to continue that success. She hopes to use the all-star experience as a springboard heading into her senior campaign.

“It has pushed me and given me a jumpstart on the season,” Argent said. “I want to continue with that momentum and drive to go out [as a senior] the best I can.”

The North All-Stars defeated the South All-Stars 66-57.
