Randy Laverne Edwards, the subject of a tedious, multi-agency manhunt, has been arrested.

Edwards was located on County Rd. 43 in Clanton around noon June 29 and was taken into custody by the Clanton Police Department.

Edwards is charged with attempting to elude law enforcement officers and resisting arrest. More charges are expected to be added.

CCSO and the Clanton Police Department were temporarily stationed at the Interstate 65 North rest area as they searched the surrounding woods for Edwards.

An Alabama Law Enforcement Agency helicopter and a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit assisted in the pursuit.

Allegedly, the theft suspect initially fled pursuit by a CPD officer in Clanton, speeding to the interstate in a white vehicle and ultimately veering off into the rest area before exiting his car and fleeing on foot into the woods.

Edwards is in the custody of the Chilton County Jail.
