Registration is now open for the new Alabama First Class Pre-K programs for 4 year olds at Maplesville, Isabella and Verbena high schools.
Ashlie Harrison of the Chilton County Schools Department of Teaching and Learning said parents can apply to multiple schools to increase their chances of being selected for one.
Application for Isabella’s preschool program ends June 7. Application for Maplesville ends on June 8. Application for Verbena ends on June 18.
Applications must be completed online at alprek.asapconnected.com. Only one online account is needed, even if applying to multiple schools. For those without internet access, computers will be available at each of the schools for registration, Harrison said.
Students will be selected by a random drawing. Limited space is available. Harrison said children who have not been selected will be placed on a waiting list in the order the child’s name was selected.
The drawing for Isabella will be held on June 7 at 10 a.m. The drawing for Maplesville will be June 11 at 9 a.m. The drawing for Verbena will be June 18 at 9:30 a.m. Applicants will be notified of their results and do not have to be present.
If someone selected drops out of the program, a student on the waitlist will be contacted to take the spot.
Children must be 4, and not turn 5 before Sept. 2 in order to qualify. A birth certificate and proof of Alabama residency is required.
Harrison said the preschool programs will helps students develop the skills needed to be successful in kindergarten.
