Jimmy Ray “Shorty” Mims

Jimmy Ray “Shorty” Mims, 77, of Verbena, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at his residence.

He was born Friday, May 23, 1941, in Alabama, son of the late George P. Mims and the late Fannie Bea Moates Mims.

He was a car salesman.

He is survived by his wife, Emily Mims of Verbena; daughter, Cindy (Jerry) Blackmon of Clanton; grandchildren, Britt Blackmon of Clanton, Cameron Blackmon of Birmingham and Katie Blackmon of Birmingham; sister, Fannie Jean (Randall) Edwards of Verbena; brothers, Richard Mims of Clanton, Johnny (Linda) Mims of Verbena and Curtis (Kim) Mims of Birmingham; sister-in-law, Barbara Mims; numerous nieces, nephews, family & friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Fannie Bea Mims; babies, Jimmy Ray, Jr. and Emily Jean Mims; brother, B. J. Mims.

Friends will be received from 5 – 7 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018, at New Covenant Baptist Church.  Services will be held Friday, June 1, 2018, at 11 a.m. at New Covenant with Rev. William Earl Short officiating. Interment will follow in Verbena Cemetery, Verbena, Alabama.
