The Clanton City Council made quick work of its agenda during a meeting on May 24.

In a meeting lasting less than 10 minutes, council members unanimously approved three people to volunteer positions in the Clanton Fire Department.

Fire Chief David Driver said each person had the needed certification but needed to pass the physical, agility test and drug test before becoming a member of the department.

The meeting had been scheduled for May 24 rather than the traditional fourth Monday since it would have put the meeting on Memorial Day.

Clanton governmental offices will be closed on Memorial Day, May 27.

Also during the meeting, the City Council unanimously renewed the contract with the  Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging.

Mayor Billy Joe Driver passed along a thank you to Clanton Police Chief Keith Maddox from an out-of-town motorist Maddox had assisted when he got a flat tire.
