The Chilton/Clanton Public Library and the Chilton County Master Gardeners have come together to offer a new opportunity for adults wanting to know more about gardening.
Gardening at the Library will be offered each Thursday in June.
“We’ve been trying to think of good ways to expand our programing for adults,” library director Savannah Kitchens said.
Kitchens contacted the Master Gardeners to see if they would be interested in partnering for a program.
“They were so receptive,” Kitchens said.
Each session will be presented by a different Master Gardener on a specific topic.
On June 7, Trisha Williams and Audrey Giles will present “On the Wild Side — Great Native Plants for the Garden” at 10 a.m.
Master Gardener Vice President Susan Cleckler said working with plants native to Alabama is always a topic people get excited about.
On June 14, Master Gardener President Sondra Henley will present “Composting 101” at 10 a.m.
On June 21, Larry Jones will present “Vegetable Gardening” at 10 a.m.
On June 28, Lanell Baker will present “Starting Your Plants from Seed.” at 11 a.m.
The presentations will include information helpful for both beginning and experienced gardeners.
Cleckler said each of the speakers has vast experience in their content area.
“We are thrilled to be able to work with them,” Kitchens said.
Cleckler said she tried to pick general topics that would not be too complicated.
“My biggest reason for wanting to do this was outreach to the community and letting them know about Master Gardeners,” Cleckler said. “We were excited to partner with the library.”
Cleckler said she hopes to see enough response to continue the classes past June.
The vegetable gardening and the seeds presentations may have some hands-on opportunities.
Registration is requested so each presenter will have an idea of how many will be in attendance. Registration can be completed by calling the library at (205) 755-1768.
