Pearlneisha Chantrell Johnson, 24, was located in Montgomery on May 17. Johnson was arrested on outstanding warrants and then extradited from the Montgomery Police Department to the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office the same day, according to CCSO.

“We had been looking for her since she was released from the hospital,” Assistant Chief Deputy Shane Mayfield of CCSO said.

Johnson is the alleged driver of a Dodge Dart apprehended for speeding and attempting to run vehicles off the road on Interstate 65 South, between Jemison and Millbrook. The pursuit concluded at mile marker 179 when the driver of the Dodge attempted to force off-road the deputy in pursuit, initiating a wreck that injured both the driver and deputy.

Police were surprised to discover a 14-month-old child in the suspect’s lap.

All three were admitted to a local hospital, where the deputy, identified as Dep. Edwin Freeman, was administered more than 30 staples in his head and 20 stitches in his elbows.

The Dodge driver was treated for her broken ankle, and the child was declared fine.

Johnson is currently in the custody of the Chilton County Jail.
