Football is in the air once again, as teams throughout Chilton County are set to begin spring practice within the next couple of weeks.

Chilton County High School and Verbena opened practice April 30, while Thorsby follows suit May 2.

Jemison and Isabella start spring practice May 7 and will wrap things up with a spring game between the two schools hosted by Jemison on May 18 at 6 p.m.

CCHS will also hold its spring game May 18. The Tigers will host Calera beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is $5.

Chilton County moving to Class 5A was big news during the AHSAA’s most recent reclassification.

However, CCHS head coach Tal Morrison expects the program to be back in Class 6A after the next shakeup in a couple of years.

As a result, scheduling Calera for the spring game was a strategic move by Morrison.

“I wanted to have a third 6A team on the schedule,” Morrison said. “It gives our guys a little taste of what they will be up against.”

Verbena will take to the road to play its spring game against Victory Christian School in Pell City.

Spring practice typically lasts about two weeks and culminates with a spring game or scrimmage.

Thorsby had planned to play a spring game, but it fell through and the Rebels may be forced into scrimmaging themselves if another arrangement does not become available.

Maplesville and Billingsley did not provide the dates and times of spring football practice.
