The Chilton County Board of Registrars will be at the Clanton campus of Jefferson State Community College for voter registration April 18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The state requires us to go to our local colleges and have special registration,” said Michelle Bolton, chair of the Chilton County Board of Registrars. “It gives the students a chance to register or to update their information. We usually go twice a year: once in April and once in the fall.”

Bolton said the group will have a table set up right as students walk inside the front door. Anyone wishing to register or update their information needs either their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number.

“We have them fill out an application that asks for some of their basic information,” Bolton said. “It will ask for things like their name and address. The more information we have, the easier it is to register them.”

Bolton said they normally register around 25 people per event. She also said anyone wanting to register does not have to be from Chilton County to complete the process.

“We can forward the information to other counties,” she said.

People can also register online at alabamavotes.gov.

“It is very important for people to register to vote,” Bolton said. “They need to have their voices heard. We need lots of participation in our elections.”
