Habitat for Humanity of Autauga and Chilton Counties hosted its first-ever Hogs for Habitat Motorcycle Fun Ride on April 15.

The event combined both counties in its effort to raise money to help fund affordable, quality Habitat homes for residents in the respective counties.

Despite the foreboding forecast, the fun ride was a blast, executive director Lisa Green of Habitat for Humanity said.

“There were riders from five counties,” she said. “It was very cool to hear the motorcycles in the distance and know they were headed our way.”

Chilton County participants traced a route from the Clanton Walmart, while Autauga County riders followed theirs from the Millbrook Walmart.

Both groups arrived at Verbena Central Alabama Electric Cooperative to enjoy a Boston butt meal with sides, provided by Reser’s, as well as Ann-Maries Cakes and McAlister’s tea.

Russell Do it Center donated the use of a smoker, according to Green.

Door prizes were provided by Advanced Auto Parts, Billy Lynam S. Auto Save, Olive Garden, Gipson’s Tire Pros and Sweet-Tee’s Personalized Creations.

Green said that while the dismal weather resulted in fewer participants than hoped for, fundraising went smoothly.

Proceeds from riders’ participation will benefit families in need in their respective counties.

Green said the Habitat for Humanity will continue to host a spring fun ride each year.

This year’s event was a success.

“It was so much fun,” Green said.
