Jewel Leevon Gandy Smith

Jewel Leevon Gandy Smith, age 77, died at her residence in Stanton on April 6, 2018. She was born June 12, 1940, in Maplesville, the daughter of the late Von Gandy and the late Effie Mae Wright Gandy.

She was a homemaker.

To know Mrs. Smith was to love her. She was a devout wife, devoted mother, beloved “Nanny” and a friend to all who knew her. Her smile brightened the darkest of days and her unconditional love surpassed that of the highest mountains and the deepest valleys. She was many things in life but her greatest love was not only her husband, it was her Savior.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Johnny Frank Smith, Sr. of Stanton; daughter, Barbara (Stan) Justice of Clanton; daughter, Jewel Delene Smith of Stanton; son, Randall (Vickie) Smith of Selma; son, Frank (Jean) Smith of Maplesville; son, David (Connie) Smith of Maplesville; daughter, Loretta (Robert) Averette of Plantersville; 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; special sister, Vestelle Aungst of Panama City, Florida; sisters-in-law, Dot Bone of Maplesville, Glenda (John Earl) Short of Maplesville and Joanne Milam of Jemison; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Von and Effie Mae Gandy; brother, Leighton Gandy and grandson, Michael Melton.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, April 11, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home.

Services are scheduled at 11 a.m. April 12 at the Maplesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob West, Rev. Aaron Ellison and Rev. Barry Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the Maplesville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are grandsons, Ben Smith, Chris Smith, Josh Smith, Shane D. Ogle, Coby Atchison, Casey Atchison, Jake Jones and Scott Melton.

Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Ellison Memorial Funeral Home of Clanton.
