Isabella edges Billingsley with walk off

A walk-off RBI single by Trinity Cox in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled the Isabella Lady Mustangs to a 12-11 win over the visiting Billingsley Bears on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears would get the bats going early with a three-run first inning. A leadoff double from Madison Motley and a walk to Abby Tindol would set up a two-RBI single from Shelby Bevan. A RBI double from Kelsie Elrod would score Bevan and give Billingsley an early 3-0 lead.

A pair of walks issued to the Mustangs in the bottom half of the first, along with a two-out based-loaded situation for Billingsley in the second, would result in no runs for either team as action would move to the bottom half of the second.

Kelsey Cox would start the home half of the inning with a leadoff single followed by a bunt for a single from Gabriella Fjeldstad and a walk to MacKenzie Ratliff. A fielder’s choice single to Trinity Cox would score one run, while a sacrifice fly by Jayda Jones would score another. A RBI triple by Kristin Wilson and a passed ball at the plate would see the Mustangs end the second inning with a 4-3 lead.

The Isabella lead would be short lived, as the Bears would answer right back with three runs of their own. Maegan Motley would get things started with a single followed by Elrod with her second double of the game. Chloe Motley would add a RBI single while an error and a passed ball at the plate would make it a 6-4 Bears lead.

After two quick outs to start the inning, the Mustangs would rally to make it a six all game thanks to a Billingsley error along with a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Jones.

A three up and three down top of the fourth inning for Billingsley would give way to the Mustangs tacking on one more in the home half of the inning thanks to a RBI ground ball from Fjeldstad that would give Isabella a one run lead.

Again, the Bears would answer the call with four runs in the top of the fifth. A single by Chloe Motley, along with an error on a ball hit by Price, would set up a RBI double by Cassidy Letlow. Madison Motley would follow with a RBI single, while a RBI single from Tindol along with a RBI ground ball from Bevan would give the Bears a 10-7 lead.

A leadoff double by Trinity Cox would lead to a bases-loaded RBI walk to Kelsey Cox that would cut the Billingsley lead to two at 10-8 after five innings of play.

After a scoreless top of sixth for Billingsley, Isabella would plate one more run in the home half of the inning thanks to a leadoff walk to Ratliff that would later see her score on wild pitch at the plate.

Headed to the seventh, Billingsley led 10-9.

Madison Motley would start the top of the seventh with a leadoff single for Billingsley that would set up a run on a bases-loaded walk to Spencer Simpson while making it a 11-9 Bears lead as the Mustangs would take to the plate with three outs to play with.

The Mustangs would receive a little help from the Bears during the inning thanks to four walks, but with the score tied at eleven, it would be a bases-loaded one-out RBI single by Cox that would give Isabella a final 12-11 lead and the win.

Cox got the start on the mound for Isabella and threw three innings while allowing five earned runs and 10 hits with three walks and one strikeout. She also led at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance with two singles, a double, and one RBI.

Katlynn Burnette got the start for Billingsley and threw three innings while allowing four earned runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Madison Motley led at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance with three singles, a double, and a RBI.
