The Chilton/ Clanton Public Library hosted a sweet way to celebrate spring break with a cupcake decorating in honor of the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.

Library Director Savannah Kitchens said the library wanted to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, which is in March.

“We wanted to celebrate Dr. Seuss as a great author with some birthday cupcakes, but we also wanted to have it when kids were out of school, so we waited until spring break,” Kitchens said.

Children had the opportunity to decorate cupcakes with various candy ranging from Sour Patch Kids to M&Ms.

“We have gel icing so they can do designs and all kinds of sprinkles,” Kitchens said.

Dr. Seuss’ quirky style is loved by children and adults.

“My favorite Dr. Seuss story is ‘Yertle the Turtle,'” Kitchens said. “I love it because it’s really funny, and I like the way my husband (James) reads it when he reads it out loud to our daughter (Stella). It’s hilarious. He does a good job.”

Participant Knox Corley likes “Fox in Socks” because it has his name in it.

Audra Wood said her favorite Dr. Seuss book was “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.”

Participants could choose chocolate or yellow cupcakes

Participant Kelaiah Radford said she wanted to put all of the different candies on her cupcakes. Kelaiah chose a spiral pattern for her candy to fit as many as possible.

The next event at the library will be Toddler Tales at 10 a.m. on April 4 for ages 0 – 3.

Chilton/Clanton Public Library is located at 100 First Avenue in Clanton.
