After a fast start to spring break with a pair of wins, the Chilton County High School baseball team suffered a 10-3 loss to Fairview on the second day of the 2018 Gulf Coast Classic II Baseball Tournament on March 27.

Fairview opened up a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, when Dalton Patterson put the Tigers (13-9) on the scoreboard with a two-run bomb to center field.

However, Fairview continued to add runs in the fifth and sixth innings and methodically increased its lead.

Griffin Green drove in Gabriel Gray with a single in the seventh inning to put a cap on a productive game.

Green went 2-for-4 with an RBI from his leadoff spot and also stole a base.

Both of CCHS’ extra base hits came in the fourth inning, as Jarrett Ricks doubled and later came around to score on Patterson’s home run.

Rylee Thornton got the start for the Tigers and gave up one earned run on five hits, while striking out five in three innings pitched.

Landon Simmons pitched three innings in relief and struggled to hit his spots at times. He hit two batters and walked three more en route to four earned runs.

Jaylon Gilley struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh inning.

The Tigers kept pace with Fairview in the hitting department for much of the game. The difference proved to be in the field with five errors in the contest.

CCHS looks to regain its form as it wraps up the spring break tournament against host Gulf Shores at 7 p.m. on March 28.
