Alee Stewart Johnson Sasser

Alee Stewart Johnson Sasser died March 17, 2018, in Clanton, where she was born on July 3, 1921.  She was the sixth daughter and last surviving child of Dr. and Mrs. N.S. Johnson.

When she was born her older sister Priscilla had wanted a baby named Billy just like the one her father had delivered for the Mims family and was convinced that her wish had came true in her baby sister.  She had insisted on calling her baby “Billie,” and afterwards she was so named by friends and family.

Mrs. Sasser graduated from Loretta Academy in Bethlehem, Kentucky, Stephens College and the University of Alabama.  While she worked for the Department of Agriculture’s Home Demonstration Program and the Department of Social Welfare in the late 1940s and early 1950s, the majority of her career was spent teaching science and home economics in Brantley where she lived with her family for 50 years.

Her husband of 60 years, Jesse A. Sasser, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Jesse A. Sasser, Jr., (Frances), her daughter Jane S. Moore; her grandchildren Raine S. Pipkin (Matthew), J. Strock Moore, Stewart D. Moore and Margaret W. Sasser; and great-grandson George W. Pipkin.

Services are scheduled March 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church with graveside service following at 3 p.m. at the cemetery in Brantley. Visitation will follow each service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a gift to Presbyterian Home for Children, P.O. Box 577 Talladega, AL 35161 or Grace Fellowship Church, 1208 4th Ave N Clanton, AL 35045.
