A teacher’s wish has come true, thanks to a donation from the Rotary Club of Chilton County.

Verbena teacher Beth Ann Pope received $659.80 to purchase four Chromebooks for her classroom.

Pope had tried to raise money for eight Chromebooks on DonorsChoose.org but was not able to raise enough funds.

Rotarian Brandy Clackley heard about the teacher’s efforts and recommended Pope to receive funds.

“I was super excited,” Pope said.

Swenson said funds raised at a Taste of Chilton County made the donation possible.

Pope uses many computer programs to help students reinforce basic skills.

Having more Chromebooks would allow more students to use the programs at the same time.

ReflexMath, AR, WhooosReading.org and Spelling City programs are also used on a weekly basis.

Other programs, such as Classworks, are used to informally test whether they are where they need to be to require an electronic device.

Because Classworks has built-in testing, Pope can see that her students have already progressed from where they were on content knowledge in September. Pope said the success of the program is also seen in the school’s report card recently released from the state.

Pope also wants to teach her students how to research topics online, but said it is difficult when they all do not have a device at one time.
