In one of the strangest games to date, the Maplesville Red Devils varsity basketball team defeated the Isabella Mustangs 67-48 on Jan. 19.

The score was tied at six with 2:31 left on the clock in the first quarter when the power went out in the entire gymnasium.

It was the result of a massive outage in both the Maplesville and Isabella communities.

Play was postponed about 15 minutes until the power was restored. The officials gave both teams another chance to warm up and then they got back to action.

Maplesville used that power outage to their advantage and they jumped to a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was much of the same with Maplesville using its bench players to spark the offense.

Freshman guard Jackson Abbott scored five of his 12 points in the second quarter.

Isabella kept the game close in the beginning of the fourth quarter only trailing 45-38, but the Red Devils were not to be denied in the final period.

Maplesville’s Timothy Bradley took over the fourth quarter as he scored eight of his team-high 18 points to seal the deal for the Red Devils.

The Mustangs had an impressive scoring output from Jaqarise Stacy with 22 points.
