A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 at mile marker 203 on Jan. 9 at 10:50 p.m. resulted in the death of Amy Marie Haley, 37, of Clanton.

Verbena Fire/Rescue, Chilton County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.

Verbena Fire Chief Allen Goree said Haley was driving a 2008 Kia Sorento in the northbound lanes when her vehicle was T-boned by a Dodge Ram truck.

Based on the scene, Goree said it appeared that the Sorento had hit the guardrail and then spun into oncoming traffic before getting hit. According to Alabama State Trooper Cpl. Jesse Thornton, Haley was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Verbena Fire/Rescue had six volunteers at the scene until 2 a.m.

The driver of the truck was transported to St. Vincent’s Chilton with minor injuries.
