The Verbena Red Devils used the three-point line to their advantage to defeat the Maplesville Red Devils 53-40 on Jan. 8.

Verbena guard JaNiya White started off hot from three-point land as all nine of her first quarter points came from beyond the arc as Verbena led 15-8 at the end of the first quarter.

White kept the momentum up for Verbena with some help from her sister Jasmyn White, who hit two three-pointers in the second quarter as Verbena’s lead increased to 34-20 at halftime.

Maplesville started the third quarter with new energy and held Verbena to only seven points the entire period.

Maplesville center Tydasia Davis scored eight of her team high 14 points in the third quarter to help cut the deficit to 10, as Verbena still maintained the lead 41-31 entering the fourth quarter.

Verbena proved to be too much and added 12 more points in the fourth quarter with six coming from JaNiya White with one of those being another three-pointer.

JaNiya White finished with 24 points while her sister Jasmyn White added eight.
