The Clanton City Council approved two bids during a short meeting on Dec. 11.

A bid from the National Joint Powers Alliance list for $59,539 was approved for the purchase of a new Bobcat excavator.

Mayor Billy Joe Driver said the current excavator is in bad shape. However, the machine will be kept to work on the creeks until it stops working entirely, he said.

A bid from Calloway Construction for $49,000 was approved to address drainage issues at one of the ball fields.

The Council also approved its annual contribution of $50,000 for the Airport Authority for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. Driver said the contribution is to provide the matching funds needed for a grant.

The City Council moved its next meeting day to Dec. 20 at 5 p.m.

City offices will be closed Dec. 21 through Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday and will re-open on Dec. 26. The city offices will also be closed on Jan. 1.
